Democracy and Participation in School
Students have the right to be involved in decisions that affect them. They must be heard, and their opinions must be taken into account, regardless of their age and level of maturity.
Description
One of the school's responsibilities is to teach students what democracy means in practice. Children also have an independent right to be heard and to express their opinions. Schools must therefore provide students with information in a way that allows them to form their own opinions. Through discussions, the school must ensure that students have the opportunity to express their views. While all students have the right to speak freely, they are not obligated to say anything if they do not wish to.
The school does not need parental consent to speak with students.
To ensure genuine participation, the school will provide information to students in a way that is adapted to their age, level of maturity, language, and cultural background.
